The Social Matters Podcast

Nadia, Fran, and Eugene are the hosts of the Social Matters Podcast. The idea for the podcast emerged in 2018, when they noticed a lack of UK-based podcasts focused on social work and social work education. Recognising this gap, they set out to create a space for meaningful conversations about social issues that affect not only social workers, whether students or experienced professionals, but also the general public and those outside of the social work field.

From the beginning, the goal has been to create social impact by offering honest, engaging, and nuanced discussions that reflect the realities of social work. The podcast also aims to challenge misconceptions and offer a more accurate representation of the profession.

Listeners often describe the podcast as fun, accessible, thought-provoking, humorous, and educational. All three hosts have systemic training. Nadia is a qualified systemic psychotherapist, while Fran and Eugene are systemic practitioners. This shared foundation informs their reflective and relational approach to the conversations they lead.

Over time, the podcast has evolved to cover a wider range of social issues, with a strong focus on themes of diversity, equity, and inclusion. From episodes on race, mental health, disability to discussions about power, privilege, and belonging, the podcast continues to explore how social justice intersects with everyday life and professional practice.
